Five keel types over the run: cast-iron swing keel (most common; 5.0 ft down / 2.66 ft up), cast-iron fixed keel, lead fin, lead wing (2.83 ft) and later glass-encapsulated lead. Standard and tall rigs. Major redesign for 1987 (new deck and interior, pop-top standard). Most boats use a transom-bracket outboard; a few late boats had small inboard diesels. • Rudder gudgeons and pintles breaking or pulling out running gear
  A frequent complaint is gudgeons/pintles breaking or working loose from the transom, with stress cracks and leaks at the attachment points. Repairs usually need an inspection port inside the transom to reach the bolts.

  Swing-keel boats used a galvanized trailer winch that often corrodes in salt water, and on early boats the pennant eye could rotate, bind and break the wire. The keel can also knock in its trunk at anchor.
